Preternatural Shows Premiering this Fall: Grimm, Terra Nova and The Secret Circle

Witches! Dinosaurs! Fairytales! Oh my!

This fall, television viewers will be excited to find three new preternatural shows. Each with their own niche, these shows will be a nice change from the usual comedy and drama filled fare that tend to overload every networks nightly lineups. While there is guaranteed to be some teenage angst, cop drama and, of course, life threatening moments, these shows should intrigue all those who enjoy anything that is preternatural.

The Secret Circle

(premieres September 15th, 9/8c on CW)

After the success of L.J. Smith‘s first series, The Vampire Diaries, CW has invested in and is premiering the second of series based off of her books, The Secret Circle.

This fall, viewers will be introduced to beautiful Cassie Blake, recently orphaned and sent to live in the small town of Chance Harbor, Washington. Under the care of her loving grandmother, Cassie begins to settle into every day life… until her new friends reveal a secret.

Descended powerful witches, Cassie is approached to join a secret circle filled with magic and mystery. It isn’t long until she discovers there is more at hand than meets the eye. Cassie and her friends will have to rise up to overcome the dark powers at play, or succumb to its whim.

Premiering on September 15th at 9/8c, The Secret Circle will follow its predecessor, The Vampire Diaries. It seems the CW will continue have their Thursday nights geared towards the preternatural and appealing to a more teenage audience.

Will The Secret Circle cast a spell on its audience? Or will it cease to live up to the success of The Vampire Diaries? Only way to find out is to view in!

Terra Nova

(premieres September 26th, 8/7c on FOX)

FOX‘s Terra Nova is an adventure 85 million years in the making. Viewers everywhere should be excited to delve into this epic family adventure.

The year is 2149, Earth’s inhabitants are on the verge of mass extinction as the planet begins to die from overpopulation and development. In an attempt to save the human race, those who remain embark on a dangerous and daring experiment to travel back in time.

In hopes of giving mankind a second chance at a chance to right all the wrongs that have led to the destruction of the world around them, scientists have developed a way to travel to “Terra Nova”. Terra Nova is an colony in the lush and beautiful land in a time when dinosaurs still ruled the Earth.

But danger isn’t necessarily in the forms of the large man-eating dinosaurs that exist on the other side of the wall that separates Terra Nova from the rest of the world. All is not well among the colonists and the Shannon family will be tested in their ability to survive the dangerous new world and overcome the challenge of discovering who it is they can truly trust.

Premiering September 26, at 8/7c, Terra Nova will be joining the Monday night lineup, airing before the ever-popular House. Dinosaurs ruled the Earth, but they didn’t have man to contend with… until now.

Grimm

(premieres October 21st, 9/8c on NBC)

In NBC‘s Grimm, fairy tales are not merely stories, but warnings. A fact that Detective Nick Burkhardt is quickly realizing as he begins to notice things are not what they seem. Beautiful women are actually hideous hags and the man next an ogre, life in Portland, Oregon has never been so bizarre.

Stumbling upon the knowledge of his heritage, Nick is forced to step into the role of a “Grimm”. Grimms are hunters tasked with stopping the proliferation of the supernatural beings in the world. One of the last living “Grimms”, Nick must embark on his journey, while maintaining his regular job.

Grimm helps viewers to see the evil within and happily ever after doesn’t always exist. From the big bad wolf to little red riding hood, delve into the mysteries that surround the myths passed down through the generations.

Just in time for Halloween, Grimm will premiere October 21, at 9/8c. These famed tales have made children happy for centuries, but will it be enough to overcome the Friday night curse?
