Dark Shadows is being filmed entirely in England, both at Pinewood Studios and on the location. A star-studded cast will be joining Tim Burton regulars Johnny  Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, including Michelle Pfeiffer, Eva Green, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz, Jackie Earle Haley and Jonny Lee Miller. Newcomers Gulliver McGrath as David Collins and Thomas McDowell as the young Barnabas Collins (the young Johnny Depp) will also be joining the ensemble cast.

The behind the scenes creative crew includes cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel, Oscar-winning production designer Rick Heinrichs (Sleepy Hollow) and  costume design from Oscar-winner Colleen Atwood (Alice in Wonderland). Editor Chris Lebenzon is another veteran of Alice in Wonderland joining the creative team. The Dark Shadows score will composed by Danny Elfman.

Burton is directing and producing Dark Shadows from a screenplay by Seth Grahame-Smith who collaborated with John August on the story. Both story and script are based on the television series created by Dan Curtis. Also producing are Oscar-winners Graham King and Richard D. Zanuck, another Alice in Wonderland alum. The executive producers are Chris Lebenzon, Nigel Gostelow, Time Headington and Bruce Berman.

Dark Shadows is described as a gothic-horror tale complete with vampires, ghosts, witches, werewolves  and ill-lit mansions with plenty of empty rooms and history, much of it hidden. The original television series aired from 1966 to 1971.
