Weekend’s top box office draws include 4 preternatural films

Four preternatural films represented one-third of the top box office earners for the weekend ending 15 May, 2011, according to estimates from Rentrak Corporation.

Thor continued his reign in theaters bringing in an estimated $34,500,000 in revenue for the weekend. Thor  has earned Paramount nearly $120,000,000 since the film was released earlier this month.

In its debut weekend, Priest raked in an estimated $14,500,000 for Sony. Landing in the Number 4 spot, this sci-fi vampire film stars Stephen Moyer (Bill from HBO’s True Blood) in a supporting role.

A teen Red Riding Hood teams up with the Wolf to rescue Hansel and Gretel and earn more than $1 million for The Weinstein Company as Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil is the 11th highest grossing film of the weekend.

The creepy horror film Insidious scared enough movie-goers to secure the Number 12 spot, bringing in nearly $1 million in box office bucks for FilmDistrict.
